Despite the downpours, many people gathered to watch the annual Camelford light switch-on, and take part in the Winter Festival activities on Saturday, December 1.
The festivities began with a lantern parade, starting at Clease Road and meandering down through the town, involving the choir from Camelford Primary School, North Coast Harmony and many others.
All the lanterns used were homemade as the town continues in its fight to be as plastic free as possible.
Carols were sung in the Methodist Church, and two songs were sung by the school choir and members of North Coast Harmony, including a solo from Rhiannon Hewitt.
Father Christmas took his position in the Masons Arms and there was plenty of food and drink available for those in attendance.
This year, Phil Williams was guest of honour to press the switch to turn on the Christmas lights.
Phil has kindly donated many Christmas trees to the town over the 24 years of Christmas lights.
He was accompanied by the town’s carnival royalty, Robyn Hatch, carnival queen and her attendants Louise and Charlee Sanders.
Mayor, Cllr Kirsty Ferguson gave a brief speech to thank the community for their continued support.
She said: “The lights look stunning and this year includes the newly lit bandstand which is a real feature for the town.
“The switch-on was followed by an outstanding firework display, expertly designed by Celebration pyrotechnics. Our thanks go to them for their assistance and advice. Next year’s light switch on will be Saturday, November 30, 2019, so pop the date in your diary!”
