FOUR talented Sir James Smith’s Community School students were invited to attend a Year 8 maths masterclass at the University of Plymouth.
From the first to the last moment, the students dived into learning and contributing to the imaginative and developmental activities.
The young people showed real confidence in exploring the theme of ‘patterns and redictions’ — a core feature of modern maths.
Merging with other students, from a mixture of state and private schools, the ‘terrific four’ were dauntless in displaying their talent and enthusiasm for the subject!
The intense and practical style of delivery ensured that everyone participated and learned more about maths as the day seemed to race by.
Recently whilst talking to Year 8 students during a link visit, a student eagerly and accurately, recounted a great story about a recent maths class.
One of the masterclass students successfully guided the maths class to do the same practical activity undertaken at the university.
The pupil was praised for a great example of ‘cascading’ learning and bringing back into the classroom what was learnt during the day out.
Thanks were expressed to everyone involved, for yet another worthwhile and memorable day.
