A STUDENT from St Joseph’s School in Launceston organised a fundraising day held on July 7 at Trethorne Golf Club.

William Stoppard hosted a golf competition and raffle that was composed of prizes donated by businesses located in Launceston and was delighted when the day raised more than £1,256. This money is going towards his volunteering expedition to Kenya where he will aid those living in poverty by assisting in the development of their villages with new additions being built by him and the other volunteers. Wells, classrooms and houses are amongst the list of facilities being provided.

William expressed his thanks to the local businesses for their generous donations, Trethorne for allowing him to use their course for the day and Mr Brewer of Trethorne for organising the food and facilities and helping the day run smoothly.

Special thanks were expressed to Mr and Mrs Eyles, members at the club, as without them the day would not have even been a reality.

William said: “I cannot thank the community of Launceston or the members of the club enough for what they have done for me throughout this journey. It just goes to show what a great place we live in.”

The target for William’s fundraising is £4,000 and he has currently raised around £3,200 with the help of family and friends. So far he has completed sponsored events and also achieved sponsorship along with car boot sales and other events.
