The carnival is returning to the streets of Holsworthy this year and there’s lots of to get involved in.

Ted England, chairman of Holsworthy carnival committee said: “It gives me great pleasure as the Chairman of the Carnival Committee to extend, on behalf of the whole Committee, a warm welcome to everyone attending this year’s annual Carnival celebrations. The streets of Holsworthy will come alive on Saturday, November 19 with all the multi-coloured floats, bands, music, bright lights and smiles on people’s faces. The annual Carnival is a showcase for Holsworthy’s community spirit - and one of the highlights of the year.

“Holsworthy & District Lions Club took over the reins of organising the Carnival a few years ago now. Nevertheless, the Committee continues to be a mixture of both Lions and non-Lions and, without the dedication of all involved, the event would not happen and develop in the way it has done so.

“Carnival also relies on the members of our community. Not only those who volunteer to help out on the night but, most importantly, those who spend hours making costumes and decorating the floats that will weave through the streets of Holswor-thy. It amazes me the effort that goes into the costumes and floats, and some just for one night! If you have never entered the Carnival before, then why not try to get some ideas from this year’s procession, and start thinking about whether you could join in with the procession in next year’s Carnival? This year we are hoping to make it a very special event, and would love to see more walking entries.

“Like everything in life it seems, the cost of putting on the Carnival rises each year.

“There will be lots of volunteer collectors and collecting floats in the procession, and 1 ask you all to give as much spare change as you can afford. The success of our Carnival relies heavily on the money donated on the night - money that will go towards the 2023 Carnival and, hopefully, the ones following that.

“I would like to thank all of our sponsors and advertisers for their generosity in supporting this year’s Carnival - especially given the current economic situation in which we all find ourselves. I would also like to thank the members of the Carnival Committee, and everyone else involved behind the scenes, for their hard work in pulling together this celebration for the whole community. I hope you all have a fantastic 2022 Holsworthy Carnival.

“I would also like to say a special thankyou to Simpson Barton Fisheries. For many years now they have kindly allowed us to park the Royalty trailers in their barns at no charge. This allows work to be completed in a dry environment and allowed the completed floats to remain in good order, ready to visit other local Carnivals

“Finally, I would like to invite you all to get involved and spread the word, to make this year’s Carnival bigger and better than ever.”
