SUMMERLEAZE beach in Bude was temporarily closed last week after Storm Eleanor caused a ‘sand cliff’ with a six to seven foot drop.

Visitors to Summerleaze beach were advised last Thursday to exercise caution after the recent storms created a ‘sand cliff’ on the upper shore.

As a result, a six to seven foot drop was created in the level of the sand at one of the beach access points.

Crews from CORMAC monitored the situation and placed warning signs in the area to warn visitors to take care.

However, work to collapse the edge of the sand cliff at Summerleaze beach was completed on Monday, January 8.

There is no longer a sheer drop, but the area remains steep and soft underfoot.

A spokesperson from Cornwall Council said: “We would advise visitors accessing the beach at this point to continue to do so carefully.”
