ON a recent visit to the Echo Centre in Liskeard, Tesco Callington community champion Carrie-ann Bailey attended ‘Turning the Cogs,’ an activity club for those suffering from mild to moderate dementia.
After the session she presented the volunteers and members of the group with a ‘Bags of Help’ cheque for £1,000, the money received is administered by Groundwork and raised from the sale of re-usable carrier bags in Tesco stores.
Lorraine Clark from the Echo Centre said: “Tesco Bags of Help has been a very positive experience, the funds will help subsidise the Turning the Cogs for some and was a great way to promote our services to Tesco customers.”
Turning the Cogs provides group sessions using Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy which is an effective programme stimulating and engaging people living with memory difficulties and/or dementia. The service also provides rhyme and rhythm sessions to help explore other forms of expression and reminiscence through poetry and song.
