Age Concern Bude is £100 better off thanks to members of staff at the town’s Sainsburys supermarket.

The money was part of the store’s support for the local community under its Community Budget scheme.

The £100 cheque was officially handed over to Tony Harper, of Bude Age Concern, by colleagues of the Sainsbury store, including, PR ambassador Lesley Blake-Bertram, commercial team leader Justine Trott and commercial colleague and Age Concern volunteer Chris Talbot.

The donation will be used to support hospital transport for local people.

The Sainsbury’s Community Budget scheme, helps charitable groups in the local community; it is partially funded by sales of the retailer’s ‘Bag for Life’.

This means that for every bag a customer buys at Sainsbury’s Bude, they are not only making the environmental choice, they are also contributing to their local community.

Bude store manager Pete Keighley said: “Our store is at the heart of the local community and it is important that we can play our part to support it.

“When we heard about Bude Age Concern and their story, we just wanted to help out as much as we could”.

This year, Sainsbury’s has donated over £600,000 to local charities and community groups as part of their Community Budget scheme. Last year, colleagues at the Bude store helped several local charities and groups through the scheme, including donations to Bude SLSC, Bude Life Centre and the Long House Appeal.
