For the past three years on alternate Wednesday afternoons a group of energetic mostly senior citizens are to be seen stepping out in Holsworthy's Stanhope Park. The idea for this fortnightly stroll came from Alma Bishop after a nurse specialising in diabetes said it would be a good thing to form a group for older people who don't like walking on their own. There are usually about a dozen of them who meet at 2pm in the cricket pavilion and after a circuit or two of the park, return there for a chat over tea and biscuits. Alma says it's as much a social as a healthy activity since they make friends and chat and have a laugh as they walk. Anyone wishing to join in can phone Alma on 01409 254211.
