CORNWALL Council deputy leader and councillor for Launceston North and North Petherwin, Adam Paynter, has urged everyone to ‘stay safe’ as the Coronavirus continues to sweep across the UK.

Cllr Paynter told the Post: “Cornwall Council is working hard to support its residents and businesses in these difficult times. There is extensive information on the council website at www.cornwallcouncil.gov.uk and a dedicated email address at [email protected]. Alternatively, you can call 0300 1234100.

“On a personal note, I would urge people to limit their travel, follow government guidelines and where possible, stay at home to limit the spread of the virus.

“There are local community groups to help people and please make sure that you look out for any vulnerable friends, families and neighbours.”

Cllr Paynter has also quashed suggestions that recycling maybe stopped during the ongoing Coronavirus crisis.

Cornwall Council leader Julian German was quoted in an article as saying: “We will have to look at reduced services and our focus will be on black bag waste so we’ll stop taking recycling.”

Cllr German later sought to clarify his comments, saying: “Things may change depending upon staff resource”, before adding: “Currently all waste collection services are operating as normal.”

Cllr Paynter told the Post: “I’d like just like to make it clear and assure all residents that the normal collection schedule of black bags every week and recycling every fortnight will carry on as it is.”
