CREW from Port Isaac RNLI attended the star-studded premiere of Fisherman’s Friends in Newquay recently.

It has been dubbed the ‘feel-good film of the year’ and ‘sure to make you smile’. The film certainly did that when volunteer lifeboat crew from Port Isaac RNLI attended the star-studded film premiere of the Fisherman’s Friends at the Lighthouse Cinema in Newquay recently.

A strong sense of community runs throughout the entire film and a key part of that is the lifeboat. In a scene from the film, several of the band get called away from one of the most important gigs of their lives as their lifeboat pagers beep and they drop everything to launch the lifeboat and go to the aid of people in danger in the sea, with Port Isaac Lifeboat Station as the backdrop (although eagle eyed viewers will note it’s not the station’s D-Class lifeboat used!).

On the night of the premiere the film’s production company allowed Port Isaac crew to represent the RNLI as well as having collection buckets in the foyer. The film’s star Daniel Mays (Line of Duty, Swimming with Men, Made in Dagenham) posed for photos with crew and later tweeted his appreciation to Port Isaac RNLI, saying: “Lovely seeing you all last night and thanks for all your support with the film! Keep up the good work gang. You’re an inspiration.”

After the premiere followed an after party where the Fisherman’s Friends entertained the audience with their silver screen shanties.
