YET another successful Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning took place at Camelford Liberal Club from 10am to noon on September 23, writes Helen Pusey.

Hilary Harper, organiser, said: “It has been hard work cooking for two days solid and selling raffle tickets, but at the end of the day it is for a very good cause.”

As well as making lots of cakes, Mrs Harper organised a large raffle with prizes ranging from the usual chocolates and wine, to other interesting prize tickets for family admissions to wildlife parks, gardens and theme parks.

There was still the popular homemade cuddly toy as well as bedding, cheese, a fish and chips voucher for two; cake tins, sweets, china gift set, china biscuit barrel and useful re-useable containers.

There was quite a crowd, there not only to enjoy the coffee and cake, but to buy homemade cake to take home for later.

To help raise as much money as possible Mrs Harper had a couple of stalls. One was guess the amount of sweets in the jar or pick a letter for a chance to win a bottle of whisky, wine and a bail of towels. There was a donations table too where you could pick up a last minute bargain of chocolates, toys or toiletries with that left over pound.

Altogether £800 has been raised from this event.

Mrs Harper added: “What a brilliant amount has been raised. I would like to thank everyone who came for their support, all the donations and to every business who donated raffle prizes. Thank you all so very much.”
