THE Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Phil Confue and Anita Cornelius gave an update on the continuing works at Launceston Hospital at the most recent Community Network Panel meeting in the town.

The hospital is currently undergoing a near two-month renovation, including works on the roof, as Ms Cornelius explained: “The scaffolding works started on Monday, September 4, on the impatient wing with the roof and windows being replaced.

“We didn’t have to move any patients as they were all released and we’re hoping, depending on the Cornish weather, to be finished by the end of October.

“The MIU’s (Minor Injury Unit) Phase 2, which is another assessment bed is to be done, and the tarmac is to be completely resurfaced from the start of the hospital to the bowling club (Dunheved).

“The outbuildings are also being demolished and rebuilt, the safe waste is going to be put in lock compounds and there’s going to be a new equipment store.

“The staff are very pleased and the inpatient team are currently supporting other hospitals in Stratton or Liskeard while some have been helping the community team in Launceston.”

Although the inpatient staff are not working at the hospital at the moment, the MIU is still in operation, providing dental care and x-rays among other things.
