A GROUP of local mums and grandmothers have joined forces to replace play equipment at the heart of the community – and are well on their way to renovation after a donation from a leading UK housebuilder.

St Teath Play Equipment Association has received a £600 boost from Persimmon Homes Cornwall courtesy of the housebuilder’s nationwide Community Champions initiative, which has awarded over £350,000 so far this year.

As reported in last week’s Post, the old play equipment — which had corroded beyond repair — has been removed and condemned as not safe for use. The group is now looking to breathe new life into the community.

Tracy Kitto, fundraiser and treasurer at St Teath Play Equipment Association, said: “St Teath’s playing field has been an integral part of the village for over 50 years and the play equipment has been at the centre of it all.

“If funding can’t be sourced to replace the condemned equipment, the existing play area will become completely redundant.

“This generous donation from Persimmon Homes Cornwall will go towards the first phase to replace the corroded swings.”

The group is made up entirely of volunteers and has already raised over £2,000 for the project.

Tracy added: “Several local people are committing their time to fundraising and it’s great to see that the community has shown a very strong presence in replacing the equipment.

“By getting everyone involved we hope that the playing field will once again be enjoyed by children and families of all ages for many years to come.”

Daniel Heathcote, director in charge at Persimmon Homes Cornwall, said: “St Teath Play Equipment Association has shown great community spirit in working together towards a common goal, and we are proud to be rewarding this with our

“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
