THE St Giles Women’s Guild has recently presented a cheque of £650 to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), following the guild’s fete in June.

The guild chooses a local charity to support every year, and CHSW was the unanimous choice for 2015 and 2016. The cheque, presented to Zoe Partridge of CHSW, consisted of money raised mainly by the fete, an event that is always well supported by the village and surrounding area, with stalls for plants, books, bric-a-brac, cakes and teas.

Proceeds from this, as well as a bring-and-buy that took place earlier in the year and some very welcome donations, made up the substantial amount donated to the hospice.

Following the cheque presentation, Zoe hosted an informative and amusing talk about the ethos of the hospice and the care it provides for the children and families using it. The main emphasis was on the happy atmosphere and opportunities given to the children and their families during a difficult time in their lives and beyond, until the help is no longer needed.

Carol Hunt from the guild said: “We were all delighted to be able to provide some help to this very worthwhile cause.”
