ST GEORGE'S Day is to celebrated in Newton Abbot with a ceremony and raising of the standard by children.
The event is due to take place at St Paul's Church, Devon Square, from 11am on Thursday April 23. Patriotic poems by Robert Browning and Rupert Brooke will be read as will extracts from Shakespeare.
Historian Michael Martyn said: 'So far as I know Newton Abbot is the only town in the south west that holds such a celebration on the day itself so it is hoped the event will be well supported.'
