A FARMER from St Clether has attempted to break the nine-hour world record for sheep shearing at his home farm.
In the early hours of Tuesday, July 26, Matt Smith attempted to beat the current world record for sheep shearing, which stands at 721 sheep in nine hours by Rod Sutton.
Matt, 32, from New Zealand, began his shearing career at a young age whilst living on the family farm near Auckland, after being taught by his father and other local shearers. He moved to the UK three years ago and lives with his wife on their farm at St Clether.
Matt’s attempt at beating the shearing world record was the first in the Northern Hemisphere.
See next week’s Post to see how he got on.
