THE December meeting of St Breward WI took the form of a Christmas party complete with pantomime — which was a triumph!
Christine Woolf pulled off another amazing feat, a new panto ‘The Tale of No Tail’. The cast proved that WI members are women of many talents!
The cast included: Pat Lismore as the good fairy godmother, Mary Riddiford as Merlin the cat, a rat and the vet, Fran Calver as the farmer, highways council worker and Leo the cat, Dawn Hewlett as the bad fairy godmother, Loreley Stanton keyboard accompanist, Marilyn Hunter as badger, writer and director Christine Woolf, Bonny Bryan as Bobtail, Linda Sykes as the elf, a rat and fox.
Not only a beautifully decorated village hall, with delicious eats for the lunch but also a thespian tour de force!
The WI is, pure and simply, women enjoying themselves, meeting the neighbours and with a serious purpose for those so inclined. They always enjoy meetings and this one could be a hard act to follow — but the hostesses in January won’t object to washing up for fewer than sixty people!
Rebecca Evans will join the WI on Tuesday, January 10, for a light lunch starting at 12.15pm and then give a talk on ‘Working for the Diocese’ — many people aren’t really sure of where the church in their own village finishes and The Church of England/the Diocese of Truro begins — so it is sure to be interesting and informative as well as entertaining.
Bring along the worst cracker jokes and a garden flower of the month and also recycle or pass on those items perhaps duplicated presents for the occasional ‘bring and buy’ stall — also any glossy magazines as the ‘magazine swap’ table was cleared last month!
They always aim to finish by 3pm to permit the school mums to slip away and a very warm welcome awaits everyone. For further details give president Fran Calver a ring on 01208 851235
