WHAT a perfect day for a fete — the weather, after a threatening morning sky, turned out to be bright with locals and visitors flowing through the gates all afternoon.

Local busking group 'Buskaid' leader Graham Calvesburt from Padstow opened the fete, explaining that he and his group of local buskers play regularly in the county to help charities raise funds.

They certainly raised spirits with their cheerful renditions of popular songs, with 'Joey' the puppet joining in dancing and playing a tambourine.

The puppet show, staged by St Breward WI, was a tremendous draw to the children, and adults were also keen not to miss this spectacle!

An audience of about 50 were enthralled when the show took place in the church, after the initial fear of forecasted downpours drove the puppeteers inside to erect their magnificent stage.

All the fun of the fete was to be enjoyed, from stalls to games, an auction of an enormous joint of pork, guess the weight of a cake, the cost of a box of groceries, yummy ice cream and a truly splendid raffle with prizes galore.

As for the teas, there was an unbelievable array of scrumptious things to tempt one to forget the waistline and tuck in, with the tea ladies working tirelessly to keep the food and drinks flowing.

Fete organiser and parochial church council treasurer Caroline Hooper commented: "The generosity of donors is very much appreciated and immense thanks to all who gave of their time, effort and skills to create such a perfect fete — a fantastic afternoon! The net total raised was a tremendous £1,266."
