We have been told that one of the two squash courts is to be closed to be converted to further gym facilities. These may well be needed but it is hard to understand in a town that has been rapidly expanding, why we need to take away one facility to put in another, surely the facilities should expand with the population?
Squash courts must be very expensive to build but are surely generally cheap to maintain, mainly only requiring new light bulbs periodically. Gyms do not need to be put onto sprung floors with super smooth walls and the, no longer used, viewing balcony would make a great place for a number of exercise bikes, treadmills etc where people could exercise with something to look out on.
Unfortunately it seems likely that this decision is final.
