PETER McAughey from Yeolmbridge and a team of invaluable assistants have been busy organising a 30-mile charity sponsored walk for Saturday, July 7.
The walk on the fabled Saints Way, an ancient pilgrim’s route, starts in Padstow at 7am and Peter hopes the group — who will be guided, fed and watered along the way — will get to Fowey well before 9pm.
Tired and worn out no doubt but glad to do their bit for the orphans in the projects in Zambia.
There are currently approximately 90 participants and they aim to walk anything from five to 30 miles. If you want a late entry then please contact Peter on [email protected] as soon as possible.
Peter is a trustee for Future Pillars Zambia, a UK registered charity. The charity empowers more than 1,000 vulnerable children and young adults in Kabwe, Zambia through a feeding, education and skills programme.
They aim to give youngsters a leg up towards getting employment and supporting their wider families.
Peter said: “Nelson Mandela once said that ‘education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’. It is a tough world out there and it makes everyone from the UK feel very humbled when we visit, at our own cost, every year.”
Peter and his wife Fiona would be delighted with any offers of help including baking cakes, lunch preparation and transport. In addition, with an ambitious fundraising target of £10,000, all donations would be gratefully received, no matter how small. £50 for example is the cost of providing a nutritious and very necessary lunch to a child in Zambia for an entire year, just over £4 a month.
