WHILST most of Bude was to be found in and around Crooklets for Bude at War, a group of intrepid people, plus dogs, were walking six miles along Bude Canal, over the hills to Widemouth and back along the South West Coast Path, finishing at Crooklets, on Saturday, September 16.

This was for the Bude and Stratton British Heart Foundation branch’s annual sponsored walk, raising much needed funds for the British Heart Foundation. It is a sad fact that 80% of cardiac arrests happen in the home, and less than one in ten survive, but in Cornwall the odds are one in eleven.

Research, part funded by British Heart Foundation, is ongoing to identify people at risk of coronary heart disease by looking at ‘genetic risk scores’. The money raised in this and other events run by Bude and Stratton BHF will be used to fund the charity’s research programme, in an effort to find a cure for heart disease and to fight for every heartbeat.

The group hopes to have raised in the region of £300, but sponsor forms are still being received.
