ADAM Chapman, the Tri-Service Safety Officer for Bude, completed the London Marathon on Sunday in a respectable time of 5:44:52 — despite having to walk a fair bit due to the difficult weather conditions.

The 24-year-old, who also is a part-time firefighter at Launceston Fire Station and member of the Launceston Road Runners, ran for the Cornish charity FLEET (Front Line Emergency Equipment Trust).

So far he has raised £1,391 through his JustGiving page for the charity.

FLEET provide equipment to the emergency service teams across Cornwall as well as helping to fund community defibrillators.

Adam said he was proud to support a ‘dedicated’ group of people who work tirelessly to protect the people for Cornwall.

Speaking about the marathon, Adam said although the running conditions were difficult it was the atmosphere of the event that kept him going. He said: “The running conditions were hot and hard going. The atmosphere was insane and provided so much encouragement! The spirit of London during the marathon is amazing and inspiring!”
