LAST Thursday evening saw the 2009 Budehaven Community School Prom held as usual at the stunning venue of the Falcon Hotel.

Hundreds of spectators (family, friends and holidaymakers) arrived early for a good vantage in order to see nearly 200 students arrive in a variety of vehicles including a tractor, a vintage sports car, various army type vehicles, a HGV and the biggest stretch limousines I have ever seen (and I have been to LA too!)

Suddenly two werewolf type characters arrived bearing a stretcher with a body ominously draped with a white sheet. Dramatically the body 'awoke' and Joe Munday was revealed in his usual inimitable style.

This event is becoming a highlight of the Bude social calendar and is Bude's answer to the Oscars as the students arrived and progressed along the red carpet with true star appeal.

The outfits were quite sensational with Johna Spratley sporting an Irish National tartan kilt and there was the most fantastic variety of gorgeous prom dresses from all the girls; this included Lucy Regan looking lovely in a long red gown which she had made herself.

A three course meal was enjoyed in the Acland suite and Tennyson Restaurant and then there was dancing which continued enthusiastically until midnight.

"I thought it would be good," said one student at the end of the evening "but I didn't realise it would be that good. It was amazing!"
