ANYONE who finds pink bottles on any beach locally is being urged to dispose of them in a special bin at Widemouth.
Ado Shorland, who runs Widemouth Task Force, said the Force has arranged with Cory for a pink bin to be placed at the steps at Widemouth, where any pink bottles can be dropped off.
It is after thousands of pink bottles washed up on Poldhu Beach, on the Lizard.
Bob Willingham came across one of the pink bottles at Summerleaze on Saturday. He said it was almost full of liquid, but had a couple of small holes that were leaking when it was picked up.
Mr Shorland wrote on the Widemouth Task Force Facebook page: “If you find any pink bottles on any beach locally, please use gloves to pick them up, place into a carrier bag and dispose of them at Widemouth.”
He added Cornwall Council will then count and weigh what is collected.
He said those who use the pink bin at Widemouth to dispose of any pink bottles that may be found are part of the Widemouth Task Force’s organised clean-up group, after the Government threatened fines if people remove the bottles.
Cornwall Council said it and partners, including the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Natural England, continue to monitor reports of plastic bottles off shore, which could potentially be washed up on Cornwall’s beaches.
It has been confirmed that the plastic bottles were used for the stain remover Vanish, lost last year from a container ship near Land’s End.
