AT THE October meeting of the Bude WI, held in the Methodist Church Hall, the president, Cynthia May, greeted 89 members and nine guests, and hoped they would enjoy the special harvest celebration. The bring and buy stall was packed with home grown fruit and vegetables. After a rousing rendition of Jerusalem, accompanied by Anne Denton on the piano, the president and secretary gave details of forthcoming trips and workshops.
Then the main event; Cynthia May introduced the ‘Singing for Fun’ group, which was formed by Bude WI member Carol Sparham and is strongly supported but is open to all singers under the leadership of musical director, Hilary Truss Daniel.
During their half hour performance they were accompanied by the Bude Trio and there was a splendid mix of old favourites and very modern airs. The audience applauded very warmly the lovely singing and joined in enthusiastically with the chorus’s, ending with a very vibrant rendition of Trelawney.
Cynthia May thanked all the singers and musicians for their efforts and gave a special thank you to the choir’s musical directory, Hilary Truss Daniel, who had worked tirelessly to encourage the group to become the good singers they are. Cynthia presented Hilary with a bouquet of flowers and Hilary thanked Carol Sparham for all her contributions towards the success of the group.
A pasty supper was then served and the bring and buy opened. The bring and buy raised £106.30 for the Cornwall Air Ambulance.
The competition was an Autumn Collage and this was won by Ruth Pearce, the flower of the month competition was won by lst Jenny Dabbs, 2nd Joan Lashbrook, 3rd Pat Harris.
Cynthia May reminded everyone that next month Bude WI member, Jeanette Orr is giving a talk entitled Rags to Patches and will be showing many of her wonderful creations. The competition will be a vintage sewing utensil and it will be the next round of the Bude Bakeoff, which will be Butter Whirls. As usual visitors are very welcome.
As the meeting closed the room burst into a spontaneous round of applause, hopefully meaning everyone had had a good evening.
