LAUNCESTON Library have been running a number of activities during the holidays to keep children engaged with the ‘Space Chase’ Summer Reading Challenge, as well as keeping them focused on getting their medals and certificates for reading.
This busy time has seen more than 450 children sign up to read their six books. They have been collecting rewards along the way as well like bookmarks, a window clinger, stickers and a wrist band. Another reward has been taking part in arts and crafts when they visit the library.
Recent activities like junk modelling, spoon decorating and Lego model making has been a big focus, as they are also some of the items children can make, to enter the Mayor’s Community Show.
As the library is now part of the council, colleagues and councillors have been working together to promote this new community show to raise funds for the mayor’s charity. This week families took part in clay model making with Barbi Ackroyd from the Barefoot Art Group, who is one of the show judges along with her husband Nev.
Certificates will be handed out at school.
