SOUTH West Truckers Cornwall arranged for a convoy of 33 vehicles to travel from Bude Rugby Club to The Milky Way Adventure Park near Clovelly on Sunday, May 21.
The convoy took a group of children/young adults, who have either experienced or are experiencing challenging difficulties, out for an action packed, fun filled day.
The event was organised by Reggie Vanstone, chairman of the South West Truckers.
Everyone congregated at Bude Rugby Club where each passenger and carer was introduced to their driver. Photographer Hayley Tigerfly, kindly offered her services free of charge to take pictures of each group in front of their designated lorry, to ensure each young person had a keepsake.
The convoy left Bude Rugby Club at 10.30am and travelled out of Bude and onto the A39 for a journey to The Milky Way. The atmosphere was electric as the air horns blasted and the passengers waved at the people, who were out in abundance to see the amazing sight. Along the way, further photographs were kindly taken by Andrew Jury and Daryl and Catherine Parkhouse, who are keen truck photographers. On arrival at The Milky Way, each lorry driver, along with their passenger and carer, were admitted free of charge. All other family members that have joined the convoy entered at half price.
Whilst at The Milky Way, fun was had by all. Big and little kids alike enjoyed the roller coasters, dodgems, jumping pillows and bird show to name a few. At 3.30pm everybody gathered back at the lorries, where a special cake had been made to celebrate South West Truckers 35th year. The cake, which was in the design of a lorry tyre, was sponsored by Terry and Judy Vanstone, two members who have been in the club from near enough the beginning. The cake was cut and everyone enjoyed a piece, before boarding the lorries again, ready for the return journey back to Bude Rugby Club.
The return was just as atmospheric as the outbound, with plenty of smiling faces and a lot of hooting. On arrival back at the rugby club, each guest was presented with a goody bag to complete their day.
People dispersed with huge smiles on their faces having had a thoroughly enjoyable day all round. Thanks were expressed to Philip Cook, North Devon Tyres, Briant Tyres and Big Wave Campers for their excellent escort vehicle services and participation in this event.
Thanks were also expressed to Rob Heckbert for providing a minibus services for other passengers. And to all the drivers and vehicle owners for giving their time and vehicles, as without these, the convoy would not have been possible.
