Davidstow Airfield, Camelford was once again filled with the sound of engines, as a thousand Masonic bikers along with their friends and supporters came together for the start of the 25th annual egg run in aid of charity.
The 60-mile run has once again been organised by the Widows Sons Grand Chapter Kernow, which is comprised of Freemasons from all over Cornwall, who all share the same passion of being motorcycle enthusiasts that not only like to ride together but enjoy raising money for charity when they do it.
This year on Sunday, April 9, the event dubbed the ‘Egg Run’ has raised more than £5,000 as well as receiving more than four hundred chocolate Easter eggs with all the proceeds and treats going to local charities: Bowden Derra care home, Little Harbour (Childrens Hospice South West), The ARB units for Camelford and Launceston (Area Resource Base/ special needs units).
The event finished at Bowden Derra care home, where refreshments and entertainment ended off another fantastic day for all concerned.
Maria Thorne, manager at Bowden Derra said: “We were delighted to host the reception of a stunning array of bikers on Easter Sunday following the highly regarded charity egg run by the Widows Sons Grand Chapter Kernow. As almost five hundred bikes trailed their way into Bowden Derra Park, the bewildered awe of the spectators was a sight to see. Thank you for all you do for local charities, it is a pleasure to work with you.”
Alice Merrett, who is the area fundraiser for Little Harbour, Children’s Hospice Southwest, was delighted to welcome Richard ‘Magpie’ Hallett along with his wife Sue who were representing the Widows Sons along to Little Harbour shortly after the event, as they delivered the Chocolate treats.
Alice said afterwards: “I cannot thank the Widows Sons Grand Chapter Kernow enough for their generous donation of Easter Eggs to little Harbour. It really does put a huge smile on the children and young people’s faces, and their families in our care, as well as our care teams. It is such a thoughtful gift around this time of year.”
Preparations are already well underway for the 26th Annual Egg Run which will be held on March 31, 2024.
