A Baby hedgehog, nicknamed 'Sonic', was taken into Castle Veterinary Group in Launceston, after being found by a member of the public recently.

The person had seen Sonic out during the day, which in itself was unusual, they watched him closely and discovered he was having difficulty rolling up into a ball, and when he moved he was dragging his front leg.

Once at the surgery, Sonic was anaesthetised and x-rays revealed he had a badly fractured front limb. Due to his age and the fact he was bright and eating well, a decision was made to repair the fracture the following day.

Sonic was anaesthetised and the bones in his leg were realigned. The delicate procedure then began to insert tiny metal pins into the bone to stabilise the break whilst it healed.

An external fixator was then applied to the outside of the limb to hold the whole thing in place.

Sonic's recovery was good and each day saw him get stronger and stronger, his mobility is good and the fixator and pins have been removed. He has now been moved to his new home.

A spokesperson for the veterinary surgery told the 'Post': "Sonic didn't really seem that bothered by the metal work in his leg. He moved around well and had the appetite of a horse!"
