THERE’S something fishy going on in Bude.
Residents or visitors to Bude may have seen yellow fish that have been spray painted on the pavements beside storm drains around the town, in an effort by the Bude Cleaner Seas Project to stop anything but rain water flowing into the River Neet and the River Strat, as well as the sea.
The fish are there to encourage local people to think about how they can change their behaviour to reduce the pollution that finds its way into the ocean and rivers, as well as raising awareness and reminding people that the waste and pollution that can enter storm drains are able to contaminate rivers and the sea, of which Bude is surrounded by.
Bude Cleaner Seas is a marine conservation group that aims to spread awareness and carry out community projects to rid Bude’s beaches and sea of its pollution.
The group is using the #OnlyRainDownTheDrain hashtag as part of the initiative. For further information, visit www.cleanerseasproject.co.uk
