THE Treburley Social Club held a pool doubles tournament for their members on Friday, July 5 to raise money for a charity called Myeloma UK.
The tournament was organised by Leah Docherty and Ian Morrison, with the tournament being won by James Morrison and Sam Gardiner. A lot of people attended and the night was a great success and they raised £102.78 towards their target of £1,000.
Leah said: “My amazing mum was diagnosed with myeloma back in 2016 when I was just 20 years old. My world came crashing down as she said the words ‘terminal cancer’.
“She has been so strong for her family and tries her hardest not to let the emotional and physical pain show on a daily baiss, so we’re raising some money for research into this currently incurable cancer.”
Leah and Ian have organised more events such as coffee mornings, a quiz night, and they’re even paying for themselves to do a tandem skydive in September. Leah has set up a Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/leah-docherty and any support for their skydive will be really appreciated. Myeloma is a rare form of cancer but there are approximately 5,700 people diagnosed with myeloma every year in the UK and further information is available at www.myeloma.org.uk.
