STUDENTS and staff at Callington Community College are celebrating outstanding A level results again this year, with almost 100% of students studying for A level examinations achieving a pass grade.
Notably, there has been an increase in the number of students achieving the highest grades at A level, with a fantastic 45% of A level entries resulting in the top grades of A*, A or B.
The proportion of students achieving a grade C has also increased this year by 7%. Students studying BTEC qualifications are celebrating a 100% pass rate, with many of them achieving the top grades of Distinction and Distinction*.
Congratulations to top Year 13 performers Lawrence Clarkson, Jess Hawkins, Yve Taylor, Sam Allen, Jenna Buxton and Harriet Stephens.
Lawrence achieved A*s in Mathematics and Physics and As in Chemistry and Further Maths and is going on to read Natural Sciences at Durham University.
Jess achieved A*s in Chemistry and Physics an A in Mathematics and a B in French and holds an unconditional offer to read Natural Sciences at Birmingham University. Yve achieved an A* in Biology, As in Chemistry and Mathematics and a B in Further Mathematics. She will be reading Biochemistry at the University of Warwick.
With A*s in Mathematics and Physics and an A in Chemistry, Sam will be taking up his unconditional offer to read Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nottingham. Jenna achieved A*s in Biology and Mathematics and an A in Chemistry and intends reading Veterinary Sciences at the University of Bristol following a gap year.
With A*s in Photography and Textile Design alongside an A in Media studies, Harriet will be undertaking a degree in a creative subject following a foundation Art course.
It is of special note that Sam Scrivener achieved a triple Distinction Star in Sport — without dropping a mark! He also achieved a grade C in Food Technology. Sam will be going on to a degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Chester.
There have been other notable performances. Year 12 students Jay Crocker, Ming Dawe, Rosie Hellyar, Jenna Buxton and Niamh White all achieved A* for their Extended Projects. Patrick Channings achieved Distinction*, Distinction, Distinction, alongside a C in Media Studies and will be reading Sport at the University of Bath following an unconditional offer.
