MEN are being invited to take part in a charity walk in Launceston — wearing women's shoes.
'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' raises awareness about the causes, effects and remediations to men's sexualised violence against women.
Carol Foy is organising a march in Launceston — the first of its kind in Cornwall. She is inviting everyone to walk a mile in women's shoes for charity.
Similar events have taken place in Brighton and London, but Carol is trying to raise awareness in Cornwall and at the same time help the Women's Refuge and Sexual Abuse Centre (WRSAC).
WRSAC was established as a registered charity in 1996 by a group of women from Cornwall.
Since then it has continued to develop and in the last 18 years has established itself as a 'centre of excellence' in the area of sexual violence and domestic abuse. WRSAC is based at Bodmin and has recently set up additional outreach facilities in Bude.
Carol said the event has attracted attention from Vanessa Pellegrin, creator of the documentary 'The trouble with the F word', who plans to film the march.
Carol said: "It is a family-friendly event — if kids want to walk with their dads in slippers and a onesie they can, everyone is welcome."
The event takes place on International Women's Day, Sunday, March 8, with pre-walk activities from noon at Storm Nightclub at Pennygillam Industrial Estate. The walk starts at 3pm. There will be entertainment and refreshments before the walk ends at Harvey's Bar and Bistro.
