A SLIP n’ Slide event was organised last week as part of Camelford Fun Week, also raising money for a vital cause.
When asked by Camelford Town Council if Sam and Matt Allen would be interested in hosting the event as part of Fun Week, the couple couldn’t resist!
With a cracking weather forecast and the event posts getting shared locally on social media, it was soon apparent that this event was going to be very popular with the locals. It even turned out that some families weren’t so local at all and had in fact travelled from as far as Launceston and Truro, specifically for a go on the slide. Families had seen the event advertised on local Facebook groups and said ‘it sounded too much fun to miss’.
As this was the first Slip n’ Slide event, Sam and Matt invited under 12s only to take part, and suggested for each user to make a small donation, which would be collected and given to Exeter’s Scoliosis Spinal Unit, which is at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. This is a unit, which has helped nine-year-old Camelford girl Rhiannon Hewitt immensely over the last three years.
Approximately 60 children turned up at Enfield Park with washing-up liquid in hand, ready to run, jump and slide down the 25-metre slide. Some children even ‘dragged’ a parent or two down for extra fun. Sam and Matt also arranged a smaller ten-metre slide for the younger children. Water was collected by the bucket from the nearby river, with the occasional bucket-load getting chucked directly over the children whilst they were sliding down.
The event was ‘so much fun and a total success’, raising a grand total of £100 for the chosen cause.
Matt said: “May I please take this opportunity to thank the many helpers on the day, including the town council workers who all helped at our event to see it ran smoothly and safely, and of course a big thank you to the children who were all so very well behaved. It seems we now have to arrange an adults only Slip n’ Slide some time soon!”
