BOSCASTLE Amateur Theatrical Society (BATS) held their second pantomime, Sleeping Beauty and the Merry Men, in Boscastle Village Hall from Wednesday, February 18 to Saturday, February 21.

The story unfolds in Minster Palace with the King and Queen arranging a christening celebration for their baby Princess Rose. Sixteen years later, at her birthday party, Princess Rose discovers the Bad Fairy disguised as the Cornish Tartan Cloth Maker at her spinning wheel whereupon she pricks her finger and falls asleep for a hundred years.

Act Two opens in Minster Forest with the three little teddy bears having a picnic only to be frightened away by the nasty Sheriff of Camelford. After his departure Robin and his Merry Men appear. They settle down to eat a rabbit stew when the Prince and his horse, Trigger, arrive looking for the palace with the sleeping Princess.

While the Prince is talking to Maid Marion three acts pass by looking for the X Factor auditions. First the Everly Brothers, then ABBA and finally, the fabulous Shirley Bassey singing two of her big hit songs. A little later the Prince is captured by Sheriff and his evil henchman, Sir Guy of Delabole, and put in jail. He is sentenced by Judge Dreadful to be executed by Guillotine and then rescued by Robin and his men while Maid Marion creates a distraction by singing a saucy song. All ends happily when the Prince finds and awakes the sleeping Princess with a kiss.

The cast consisted of: Princess (Morwenna Gee), Prince (Abigail Haddy), King (Anthony Brewer), Queen (Lucy Huckle), Sheriff (Malcolm Drover), Sir Guy (Michael Parsons), Mother Hood (Jill Clark), Bad Fairy (Jo Kent), Robin Hood (Lucy Eagle), Maid Marion (Sherry Christie), Little John (Justin Ruscombe-King), Friar Tuck (Charlotte Eagle), Will Scarlett (Odette Rigby-Jones), Alan Adale (Carole Flower), Horse and Guards (Robert Brakes and Ki Lockyer), Fairy Godmothers (Jericha Perry-Darlison, Josie Richardson, Rosie Bright, Holly Fanshawe and Jade Bowker), Cook (Michael Parsons), Maids (Pam Clarke and Hailey Webber), Judge (Nick Holmes), Butler (Lee Muffet) and the Teddy Bears (Alice Perry, Keely Christie and Jessica Bowker).
