THE opening of Camelford’s new skate park has been ‘marred’ by people climbing on the roof of the scout hut.
At the recent meeting of the town council, Cllr Andy Shaw raised the point and said he was worried about the roof and liability if someone were to fall.
Cllr Claire Hewlett said: “They’ve always done it. When the youth club was up there, they always did it.”
She said they tried various things in the past to deter people from going on the roof, adding: “You can’t help stupid.”
Clerk to the council, Esther Greig suggested the bird deterrent objects, but others said they were not particularly robust.
Ms Greig said it would help to get the scout hut relocated to somewhere they would like to be, but Cllr Shaw said that doesn’t solve the immediate problem.
Ms Greig agreed, but added: “They want somewhere that’s fit for purpose for them.”
