Calling all singers in North Devon, Torridge and North Cornwall! Come and join the Holsworthy Festival Chorus and Orchestra, conducted by David Robinson, in singing two exciting choral masterpieces, Bach's 'Magnificat' and Poulenc's 'Gloria' at a concert to be given at 7pm on Saturday, May 16 in Bodmin Street Chapel, Holsworthy.

This will not be a 'scratch' performance and rehearsals for the chorus begin on Thursdays at 7.30pm, also in Bodmin Street Chapel, starting on Thursday, April 2. All voices very welcome. It will cost singers a donation of £10 to sing. Scores will be provided for a small hiring fee.

As usual, the Festival Chorus will be accompanied by the Holsworthy Festival Orchestra and the soloists engaged are Louise Merrifield, soprano, Tim Carleston, alto, Les Baker, tenor and David Hadden, bass.

The proceeds this year will be going to North Devon Hospice in Barnstaple which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2009. In 1984, the very first community nurse set out to provide specialist care for people in their own homes. Since those fledgling days, North Devon Hospice has grown to provide many more services and has been warmly embraced by the people of North Devon.

Following the success of last year's joint concert with Bude and Launceston Choral Societies, when over £5,000 was raised for Children's Hospice South West, organiser and conductor, David Robinson, is hoping that a considerable sum will be raised by this concert for the North Devon Hospice 25th Anniversary Appeal (Charity Nº 286554).
