SIBLING fundraisers have raised more than £1,000 for Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of their father.
Andy Sleeman and Karen Lang raised £835 with a 12-hour silent collection at Tesco, Launceston, on Monday, December 14, and the following day a further £475 was raised at Karen’s coffee morning — a total of £1,310 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of Peter Sleeman.
Andy said of the silent collection: “It really was quite hard work! It was good to have my sister there doing the explaining! The frustration of not being able to speak was full on.
“During the day we kept a sort of tally of people we were meeting — 33 people had been directly affected by Motor Neurone Disease. That’s quite a lot for something so rare.
“One lady who donated had just lost the power of speech — that was very emotional.
“Half of the money will go to research and development for finding a cure and the other half goes to helping people who have it and their families.”
Andy added they were ‘overwhelmed’ by how much people donated on the day — which would have been Peter’s birthday.
He added: “It was nice to do something in his memory. It really was a good day.”
