A DEBATE regarding the true name of the park area off Windmill Hill, adjacent to Coronation Park, was caused after Cornwall Council installed a new set of signs.

The signs read ‘Windmill Park’, leading many to question the true name of the grassy area. However, Cornwall Council has confirmed this to be one of the area’s many names and that the space is being utilised as part of it’s new ‘Making Space for Nature’ project.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “The Making Space for Nature project is improving green spaces in Cornish towns, increasing their wildlife value, accessibility and community enjoyment

“We are currently recruiting volunteers to help transform a section of land owned by Cornwall Council which is separate to but adjacent to Coronation Park.

“As with many parks and green spaces in Cornwall, this section of land has multiple names.

“In the 19th century, it was called Windmill Hill and the reservoir at the site is called Windmill Reservoir. The park is also known as Reservoir Park.

“Anyone who would like to join our volunteer gardening group can email [email protected] or call Becky, Cormac’s urban ranger, on 07796 996351.”

The Making Space for Nature project (Green Infrastructure for Growth 2) is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) with Cornwall Council and University of Exeter providing match funding.
