CONCERNS that the proposed Tesco store in Holsworthy, could sell items which are not every day goods, such as electrical items and clothing, have been raised.
Tesco has submitted a planning application for development of a food store, associated access arrangements, parking, landscaping and retaining structures.
Holsworthy Town Councillor Martin Prentice had previously pointed out that in the Tesco plans, 1,052 square metres had been allocated for convenience goods (mainly food), but 101sq m had been left for comparison goods. This could include items such as clothing, houseware and electricals.
At the town council meeting on Wednesday, April 4, Cllr John Allen questioned whether Torridge District Council had been informed that the town council wanted Tesco to be "only a convenience store."
Cllr Prentice explained that the case officer Jenni Pine was going to look at the application in relation to the comparison goods already on offer in the town centre.
