THE North Cornwall Hunt came out in full force on Monday, January 2, for their New Year’s meet and although the annual tradition was slightly marred by allegations of shots being fired, many had an enjoyable time.
It was estimated, hunt secretary Amanda Carpenter told the Post, that ‘the chairman’s wife counted around 70 horses that day,’ with riders ranging in age from children right the way up to grandparents.
Ms Carpenter said: “There were a lot of children who took part this year, and it was great to see an awful lot of attendees filling the green at Blisland, following and supporting the hunt group.
“The weather was good, sunny but cold, which I think helped draw in the large crowds and everyone thoroughly enjoyed most of the day — with many staying all day instead of trailing off like they usually do!”
Although the day was mainly a success, with one of the largest crowds in attendance seen, the day was slightly tarnished after shots were allegedly fired ‘at the riders’.
A video was posted on social media allegedly showing shots being fired near the 70 strong hunt group, close to a public road, which spooked a number of horses.
Police have been involved and investigations are underway.
A police spokesperson said: “Police were called just before 11.30am on Monday, January 2, to reports of a possible hunt and another call advising of shots being fired in Blisland, Bodmin.
“Police have made enquiries and spoken to the interested parties. No crime has been recorded.”
