THERE was the usual lively and full attendance for the April meeting of the Royal Naval Association (RNA) at which it was a pleasure to welcome Martin Sankey, the local British Limbless Ex-Servicemen’s Association (BLESMA) representative.

Martin was presented with the branch nomination cheque for 2017 of £200.

BLESMA does a considerable amount of good work to provide support to those unfortunate enough to have lost limbs during service.

The branch also welcomed two new full members, namely serving RM Tom Stubbs, who signed up in October 2008. He now assumes the title of ‘branch sprog’ taking over from Lt Stuart Parrott as the youngest member.

Also joining was ex-RM Gary Farmer, well known in the area as a Bude ‘cabbie’ — a warm welcome was extended to both new members.

Stuart was ‘ashore’ — yet again — and very kindly sponsored the evening’s Tot. He was later joined by Dave Mayor who offered to sponsor the May allocation.

Finance, correspondence and welfare was all kept brief and membership was still strong — but a spare chair can always be found.

Socially, arrangements were all in place for the RNA ‘Fun Quiz’ on Monday, April 9, followed by the branch ‘Sunday Lunchie’ on May 20. Contact the secretary to join in.

The branch elected its 2018 national and local charity nominations as Blind Veterans UK and both Bude Scout troops.

Volunteers for the May raffle prizes are: s/ms Peter Phillips, Geoff Philp, Chunky Philp, Binzy Reynolds and Malcolm Robinson — plus any voluntary contributions.

The association meets at The Falcon Hotel on the first Thursday of every month at 7.30pm. All will be welcome.
