A SPONSORED walk for new shelter Dartmoor View Dog Rescue, Sourton Cross, near Okehampton, has raised around £500.
The new foster shelter was created by friends who felt "there were a lot of dogs that needed homes out there."
The shelter was officially opened in November, with the intention of taking dogs from January, but the shelter is already caring for eight dogs, and have found forever homes for two of them. Four are currently in foster.
Shelter owner, Pat Admans, said: "We all love dogs, there a lot that need homes, we thought it was a good idea."
