SHEEP have returned to the island of Tintagel Castle 100 years after a herd first grazed on the pasture.

In a pioneering scheme to encourage wildlife growth and manage grassland, English Heritage has been working with a local farmer to allow sheep to roam the island.

Matt Ward, property manager for English Heritage, told the 'Post' that the idea had been talked about for a couple of years, but seeing it come to fruition was "wonderful".

English Heritage is working in conjunction with Natural England which has agreed to give it a year's trial.
