5th and 6th Form pupils at Shebbear College are looking forward to a trip to Krakow in Poland early in February.
The trip is likely to be both inspiring and emotional as the packed itinerary includes visits to Auschwitz Concentration Camp, Oskar Schindler’s Factory and the Galicia Holocaust Museum in Kazimierz, the Old Jewish Quarter of Krakow.
They will also have the opportunity to meet a Holocaust survivor and learn about their experiences first hand.
On a lighter note, the trip will include visits to the Jagiellonian University, founded in 1364, whose alumni include philosopher Nicolaus Copernicus and Pope John Paul II, Wawel Royal Palace and State Chambers, Wieliczka Salt Mines and Nowa Huta, site of the former Communist Lenin Steelworks.
To round off the trip, the pupils will experience a Polish folk evening with traditional food, live music and dancers.
There will also be ice skating and shopping trips.
