PUPILS at Shebbear Community School raised an amazing £451 for the Ukrainian Crisis Appeal.

The school council had put forward the idea and the whole school community got behind the event. The children and staff came dressed in blue and yellow.

They were able to buy a Ukraine ribbon to show their support further. These were made by Annie and Wilomina and these alone raised £85.

The children paid to plant a sunflower seed as part of a competition to see who can grow the tallest one but also as a sign of peace. The day ended with a cake sale.

Headteacher Nick Alford said: “It was a tremendous effort from the whole school community. I think we have all been touched by events in Ukraine and everyone wanted to do something to help. For a school of under 70 pupils, raising over £450 is a fantastic effort and everyone should feel very proud.”
