LAUNCESTON lady, Sharon Horsington, has recently accomplished a wing walk on top of a 1942 bi-plane at 1,200 feet at Compton Abbas airfield in Dorset, all in aid of Parkinson’s UK.

Sharon, who works for Barclays Bank (not as supplied to us and printed in last week’s Post), had the challenge in mind for some time, grasping the opportunity with both hands when it finally arose, enabling her to raise funds for Parkinson’s UK.

She said: “It was an experience of a lifetime, and gave me a fabulous view.”

Admitting to being ‘scared and excited all at the same time’, she travelled at 120mph at 1,200 feet, banking at 70 degrees as she flew for what seemed a long 18-minute flight.

Sharon has raised just short of £3,000 for Parkinson’s UK so far, and has extended thanks to all those, near and far, who sponsored her, and for their incredible support.

In particular, she has expressed her appreciation to the Dunheved Lodge, who, presented by Keith Taylor, very generously donated a cheque for £250; and her employers at Barclays Bank, who gave £1,000 with their matched fundraising scheme, increasing Sharon’s fundraising total of £1,800 to £2,800. However, funds are still coming in, and it is hoped the total will continue to increase.

Sharon will keep her feet firmly on the ground whilst she considers her next challenge.
