FOR the seventh year running, a team from Holsworthy's White Hart Hotel and the Crown and Sceptre battled against each other in a fun filled day of competitions organised by Steve Badham and Pete Cobbledick.

The opposing teams met in the two neighbouring venues at 11am on Sunday, May 2, and then made their way to the park for the 'famous' charity rugby which kicked off the day at 12.30pm.

With the good weather holding up, after 35 minutes each way and some crowd cheering from the many that watched, the game saw The White Hart Hotel win with 47 points against the Crown and Sceptre's 10.

At 4pm both teams made their way to the Square for further events, including the masked race, the lorry pull, egg throwing and boat race.

Donna Greening from the Crown and Sceptre said: "We may have lost the rugby, but we had a lovely day. One of the busiest years we have had."

Both teams came together after the day's events to watch a video of the rugby game in The White Hart Hotel, this year's winning team. An auction and raffle was then held in the Crown and Sceptre which raised a fantastic amount for the Intensive Care Unit at North Devon District Hospital.

The raffle raised £350 and the auction raised £250 to give a combined total of £600 for the hospital. Following this a 12 hour darts marathon is to be held in the Crown and Sceptre on June 22 to help raise additional contributions for the hospital, sponsor forms for this are being handed out.
