NEW monthly drop-in sessions are to be launched in Redruth to support families affected by terminal illness.

Cornish non-profit organisation Gunners Kids CIC will host drop-in sessions at Redruth Community Centre on the second Wednesday of every month, starting on February 11, from 9.30am to 11.30am.

The aim is to provide a safe, welcoming space for families who are navigating the challenges of terminal illness to speak confidentially with trained volunteers and access tailored guidance, as well as an opportunity for professionals to learn more about the support Gunners Kids CIC offers.

The Redruth sessions supplement those already on offer at The Health Hub in Launceston (second Wednesday of the month, 10am to noon) and St Austell Library (third Friday of the month, 10am to noon).

As the volunteer team continues to grow, Gunners Kids CIC hopes to extend its drop-in sessions to even more communities, alongside services including activity days, workshops, and support boxes designed to help children better understand anticipatory grief and cope with the emotional impact of having a seriously ill loved one.

Co-founder and director Tamsin Chapman-Gunner launched the charity in 2024 following the death of her husband, Chris. “It’s fantastic to be able to offer this service to families,” she said. “We are currently overwhelmed by the number who need support, and we hope our services help them navigate what is such a difficult time in their lives.”

The organisation is dedicated to supporting Cornwall families during some of their most challenging times, providing tools, guidance and peer support in a safe and welcoming environment to help them make the most of their time together while creating meaningful and lasting memories.
