AT HOLSWORTHY'S Annual Town meeting, held in the Market Hall last Thursday (April 12) the Mayor, Cllr Pauline Ede announced that the civic honour, 'Freeman of Holsworthy', voted for by the public, had gone to Eileen Steele for her service to the local community, writes Christine Williams.
She said Eileen had lived in the town for 25 years and worked in the pub trade until nine years ago. For many years she had been a leader of the Good Neighbours Luncheon Club. She was a carnival judge, arranged flowers at the hospital, helped at the football canteen and was a keen line dancer. She was presented with the Freeman's Silver Cup and a framed certificate.
The new Mayor's cadet, Adam Isaac, was invested at the same meeting. Introducing him to the Mayor, Staff Sergeant Jim Harvey said that despite recovering from an operation, Adam had taken part in numerous events, attending the Remembrance Parade and weekend camps. He was very enthusiastic, smartly turned out and polite.
